Windows Do Downloads Continue While Screen is Off

Hi,

What is the make and model of the tablet?

Sleep is a power-saving state that allows a computer to quickly resume full-power operation (typically within several seconds) when you want to start working again. Putting your computer into the sleep state is like pausing a DVD player—the computer immediately stops what it's doing and is ready to start again when you want to resume working.

I would suggest you to try the following steps.
Log on to the system with an account that has administrative privileges.

1. Click the "Start" menu, type "gpedit.msc" in the Search text field and press "Enter."
2.  Expand the "User Configuration" folder on the left pane. Expand "Administrative Templates," "Control Panel" and click the "Personalization" folder.
3. Double-click the "Password protect the screen saver" setting. A Properties window will open.
4. Choose the "Disabled" option, click "Apply" and click "OK." The lock screen feature will be disabled. Close the Group Policy Editor.

Hi, using dell venue 11 pro baytrail. I have set the sleep tonever, also remove the lock screen, disabled the screen screensaver. It's just that when the screen turns off, by display time out or pressing the power button, downloads just freezes, and when the screen goes on, it just continues.. (using orbit downloader)

Will try internet explorer's downloader and see if it works..

Step 1: I would suggest you to boot the computer into safe mode with networking and check if the issue persists. Safe mode with networking Starts Windows in safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

Clean boot will eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. A software developer of metro apps informed me that windows 8 does not allow downloading while the screen is off. Any truth to this one on windows tablet use because it sure looks to be true for dell venue 11 tablet. Windows not allowing this basic stuff?!?!? Really??

From Which website are you trying to download?

There are some website from which you can download the files in sleep mode. If you are not able to download in sleep mode, then there are some third party programs which will keeps making tiny little mouse movements.

The other work around is you should disable the sleep mode as I stated in my first post.

normally torrents, using torrex pro, utorrent, and orbit downloader, tablet already set to never sleep as stated in my first post. it downloads while the screen is on, nobody wants to download overnight while the screen is on...it's a waste, after pressing the power button to turn screen off, downloads just stop.

Hi,

This issue also could be due to network adaptor going to sleep mode when you switch off the monitor. So in-order to test the issue, I would suggest you to try the following steps to enable network adaptor to download even when monitor is powered off.

a)    Press Windows Key and X Key, select Device Manager.
b)    Expand the Network Adapter, right click and select Properties.
c)    Under the power management uncheck the box which says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
d)    Press Ok.
